Run Kadia on your computer

The local launcher serves Kadia’s apps on your computer and opens them in your own browser, so your browser wallet works. It talks to your own Ergo node. It doesn’t start a node or an indexer for you.

  • Node.js 24 (the repository pins 24.21.0 in .nvmrc). Install it from nodejs.org, or with brew install node@24 on macOS.
  • An Ergo node you run. Mainnet answers on port 9053 by default, testnet on 9052. The lending app reads boxes through the node’s index, so turn the node’s extra index on.
  • The Kadia apps, built. In the kadia-web repository, run npm ci once, then npm run build && npm run bundle. On Linux and macOS the launcher builds them for you if there’s no bundle yet, but it still needs npm ci first. A downloadable package is planned.
  • The DEX service, to quote and trade: kadia-dex’s packages/dex-service, which you run yourself. It listens on 127.0.0.1:8787 by default; pass it with --dex http://127.0.0.1:8787/api/v1/. Without it, the DEX can’t quote or trade.
Terminal window
npm run kadia -- --testnet # testnet node at http://127.0.0.1:9052
npm run kadia # mainnet node at http://127.0.0.1:9053
npm run kadia -- --node http://192.168.1.20:9052 --testnet
  • Address: it prints one like http://127.0.0.1:8080/ and opens it. It listens on your computer only.
  • Node: it checks your node once and says which network and block height it found.
  • Explorer: it works against a mainnet kadia-explorer indexer only, for now. Leave --indexer off on testnet.
  • Stop it with Ctrl+C.

The commands above serve a build that doesn’t sign. To approve transactions in your wallet, build the signing bundle and start the launcher with --signing and your DEX service:

Terminal window
KADIA_SIGNING=1 npm run build && node scripts/bundle.mjs bundle-signing
npm run kadia -- --testnet --signing --dex http://127.0.0.1:8787/api/v1/

Signing works on testnet only. The launcher refuses --signing without the signing bundle.

System Notes
Linux The browser opens with xdg-open. Without a desktop, open the printed address yourself.
macOS Install Node with brew install node@24, or from nodejs.org.
Windows Build first (npm ci, then npm run build && npm run bundle): the launcher doesn’t build on Windows. Then run node packages\serve\bin\kadia.mjs --testnet in PowerShell. If the firewall asks, Node only needs your own computer.
  • Open Settings (the sliders icon) to see which node and indexer the app uses, and to check them.
  • On testnet, use a testnet wallet. See Try the testnet prototype.
